Brief Resolution

Brief Resolution

The designs and documentations that have been received include all the relevant floor plans, elevations, sections and construction details for the proposed build.

The design provides:
  •       42x Car-park spaces
  •       4x Retail spaces, incl. cafĂ©
  •       16x Large open office space
  •       1x Storage rooms
  •       Support services incl. tea rooms, toilets, lifts and stairs

The brief asks for an iconic building that will exhibit the University’s objectives and investments into students, academics and research by providing a world-class facility.

The client also hopes the building will promote interaction through its flexibility, active fronts such as retail, food and beverage areas, and through interdisciplinary use.

Limitations

The designs have many limitations as they fail to provide any or an adequate amount of teaching spaces, lecture theatres, libraries, laboratories, sustainable design options or renewable energy solutions.

The design also limits the building’s potential for interaction as it lacks multiple entry points and doesn’t invite people to use the space.

Suggestions

To assist in fulfilling the brief and achieving the clients aims and objectives, additions must be made to the preliminary designs. Proposed suggestions for stakeholders and clients to review are as follows:

·       Atrium
·       Environmental spaces
·       Laboratories
·       Library
·       Flexible teaching/working spaces
·       Sustainable design options (windows/light/ventilation)
·       Symbolism
·       Lecture Theatres

It is clear that the preliminary designs are not adequate to achieve the client’s aims and objectives with the building, consequently it’s understandable that the proposed suggestions will assist in answering the brief and will require extra funds and a larger budget for additional buildings and larger floor areas.
